About Lisilinka: Handmade Metallic Watercolors from Germany with Extreme Sparkle

Who I am

My name is Lisi, and I have been drawing for as long as I can remember. My first pictures were made at the age of three, and ever since, plants, animals and the endless details of nature have been my greatest inspiration.

My background is in psychology. My parents were both math teachers, and I followed a science-focused education. Still, I always kept one foot in the art world. Watercolors became my creative home during my studies, and that love has stayed with me. The more delicate the textures, the more meditative painting becomes for me.

Since 2011 I have been sharing my artwork on Instagram under the name Lisilinka. It started as a nickname, it stuck, and it became the name of everything I do.

How I discovered metallic watercolors

About ten years ago I discovered metallic watercolors, and something clicked immediately. Soft watercolor layers combined with metallic sparkle felt like exactly what my paintings had been missing. Over time, metallic watercolors became my artistic trademark.

But the brands I used lacked the intensity I was looking for. I wanted real glitter, a sparkle that catches the light and makes a painting come alive from across the room. So about five years ago I started developing my own.

Almost a year of development

After almost a year of research and development, my first own metallic watercolors were ready. I focused on three things:

• an extreme sparkle that catches the light,
• a very high pigment density with full opacity in a single brushstroke,
• a formula that activates quickly and is easy to handle, with brushes and calligraphy nibs alike.

The colors come in mini pans and in our own pan designs, the Lisilinka Hexagon and the newer Lisilinka Octagon. In 2022 I officially founded Lisilinka as a brand around these colors. Today I paint only with our own watercolors.

Made in Hanover

We are a small team in Hanover, Germany, and make every color by hand. We do not outsource production. These are the colors I paint with every day, so I care about every detail: the pigments, the consistency and how the paint feels on the brush. We ship every order by the next business day at the latest.

What has grown from it

What started as my personal search for the perfect sparkle has become a community of artists at every level who share a love of detail, sparkle and the calm of watercolor painting. Our tutorial series and booklets are a direct extension of that: a way to share not only the colors but everything I have learned about using them.
